ICECS 2023

Federico Torri, PhD student from the Università di Pavia, will present a paper at the renowned IEEE 30th International Conference on Electronics (ICECS).

This presentation is based on the latest findings from his Ph.D. work, actively supported by IC’Alps.

The conference will take  place at the Hilton Maslak of Istanbul, more info here, and registration here.

Federico studied Physics at the Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca before integrating the Università di Pavia to pursue his Ph.D under the supervision of:

  • Piero Malcovati, Associate Professor ( Sensors and Microsystems Laboratory – Department of Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering – University of Pavia)
  • and Andrea Baschirotto Professor (University of Milan-Bicocca)

We are all very proud of this achievement!

Abstract

Analog Techniques for Low-power High-Performance Switched-Capacitor Sigma-Delta Modulators

This paper presents some innovative techniques for the implementation of high-performance Switched-Capacitor Sigma-Delta Modulators (SC-SDMs). The case of a single-bit single-loop topology is studied, where the main performance limitations are from the first integrator. The performance of this block in terms of linearity and noise have been analyzed and significant improvements have been achieved with new techniques, with limited or zero power consumption increase. These techniques aim to tackle some performance limitations, such as the slew-rate and operational amplifier noise folding. When applied to a 2nd-order SC-SDM, they enable to achieve a Dynamic Range of 115 dB (i.e. 18.8 bits) on a 1 kHz bandwidth, with a power consumption of 165μW from a 1.2V supply.
